Medicare Supplements

Medicare Supplement Plans in Evansville, Indiana

Original Medicare only covers about 80% of your medical costs. A Medicare Supplement plan — also called Medigap — pays most or all of the remaining 20%, protecting you from unexpected bills.

The Basics

What Is a Medicare Supplement Plan?

Medicare Supplement insurance is sold by private insurance companies and is designed to fill the "gaps" left by Original Medicare (Parts A and B). These gaps include deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments that can add up to thousands of dollars per year.

With a Medigap plan, you keep your Original Medicare coverage and your Supplement plan pays secondary — covering most or all of what Medicare does not pay. You can see any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare, with no networks, no referrals, and no prior authorizations required.

Plans are standardized by the federal government, meaning a Plan G from one company offers the exact same benefits as a Plan G from another. The only difference is the monthly premium — which is why comparing carriers matters.

What Medicare Leaves Unpaid

The Gaps in Original Medicare

Without a Supplement plan, these are the out-of-pocket costs you are responsible for under Original Medicare in 2025:

Part A Hospital Deductible

$1,676 per benefit period (2025)

Charged each time you are admitted — not just once a year.

Part B Coinsurance

20% of all outpatient costs

No cap. A $50,000 surgery leaves you with a $10,000 bill.

Skilled Nursing Facility

$209.50/day (days 21–100)

After a hospital stay, rehab costs add up fast.

Part B Excess Charges

Up to 15% above Medicare rate

Doctors who do not accept Medicare assignment can charge more.

Foreign Travel Emergencies

100% of costs abroad

Original Medicare pays nothing outside the U.S.

The bottom line: Without a Supplement plan, a serious illness or hospital stay can cost you tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket. A Medigap plan gives you predictable, capped costs — often for a modest monthly premium.

Plan Options

The Most Popular Medicare Supplement Plans

All plans are standardized by the federal government. We compare rates from 30+ carriers to find you the best price for the same coverage.

Plan G

Most Popular

The most comprehensive plan available to new Medicare enrollees. Covers everything Medicare Part A and Part B leave unpaid — except the Part B deductible.

What This Plan Covers

  • Part A hospital coinsurance & costs
  • Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • Blood (first 3 pints)
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Part A deductible
  • Foreign travel emergency (80%)

Not Covered

  • Part B deductible ($257 in 2025)

Plan N

Great Value

A lower-premium alternative to Plan G. You pay small copays at doctor visits and the ER, but most major costs are still covered.

What This Plan Covers

  • Part A hospital coinsurance & costs
  • Part B coinsurance (with small copays)
  • Blood (first 3 pints)
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Part A deductible
  • Foreign travel emergency (80%)

Not Covered

  • Part B deductible ($257 in 2025)
  • Part B excess charges
  • Up to $20 office visit copay
  • Up to $50 ER copay (waived if admitted)

High-Deductible Plan G

Lowest Premium

Same coverage as Plan G, but you pay a higher annual deductible ($2,870 in 2025) before benefits kick in. Best for healthy seniors who want a safety net at the lowest monthly cost.

What This Plan Covers

  • All Plan G benefits after deductible is met
  • Foreign travel emergency (80%)

Not Covered

  • All costs until $2,870 deductible is met (2025)

Note: Plan F is no longer available to those who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. If you were eligible before that date, you may still be able to enroll in Plan F — ask us about your options.

How It Works

How Medicare Supplement Coverage Works

1

You Visit a Doctor or Hospital

You can see any doctor, specialist, or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare — no network restrictions, no referrals needed.

2

Medicare Pays First

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) processes your claim and pays its share — typically 80% of approved costs.

3

Your Supplement Pays the Rest

Your Medigap plan automatically pays the remaining costs — deductibles, coinsurance, and copays — so your out-of-pocket expense is little to nothing.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan?

The best time to enroll is during your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which begins the month you turn 65 and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. During this window, insurance companies cannot deny you coverage or charge you more due to pre-existing conditions. After this window closes, you may still be able to enroll, but insurers can use medical underwriting.

How is a Medicare Supplement different from Medicare Advantage?

A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare (Parts A & B) to pay costs that Medicare does not cover. You can see any doctor or specialist in the country who accepts Medicare — no networks, no referrals needed. Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare with a private plan that often has networks, referrals, and prior authorizations. Many seniors prefer the freedom and predictability of a Supplement plan.

Do Medicare Supplement plans cover prescription drugs?

No. Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription drug coverage. You will need to enroll in a separate Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. We can help you find a Part D plan that works alongside your Supplement.

Can I use my Medicare Supplement plan anywhere in the country?

Yes. One of the biggest advantages of a Medicare Supplement plan is that it works with any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare — nationwide. There are no networks or referrals required. This is especially valuable if you travel, spend time in multiple states, or want to see specialists without restrictions.

Will my premium increase as I get older?

Premiums can increase over time due to age and general rate increases by the insurance carrier. However, because we compare plans from 30+ carriers, we can help you find the most competitive rate available — and revisit your options each year to make sure you are still getting the best value.

Does it cost extra to use an agent?

No — never. Our services are completely free to you. Insurance carriers pay us a commission, so you pay the exact same premium whether you work with us or go directly to the carrier. You get expert guidance, plan comparisons, and ongoing support at no added cost.
